Forca: Fast and Atomic Remote Direct Access to Persistent Memory

2018 IEEE 36th International Conference on Computer Design (ICCD), 2018
For promising performance boost, recent trends of modern data centers tend to use Persistent Memory (PM) as storage and utilize the one-sided feature of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) to directly access PM for I/O requests. However, accessing PM through one-sided RDMA faces two challenges: one-sided data races and remote data crash consistency ...

Design and implementation of a protocol offload engine for TCP/IP and remote direct memory access based on hardware/software coprocessing

Microprocessors and Microsystems, 2009
This paper presents the design and implementation of a protocol offload engine that processes TCP/IP and remote direct memory access (RDMA) protocols by means of hardware/software coprocessing. In the offload engine, time-consuming operations such as TCP/IP header generation are implemented as hardware to improve performance.

Fast and Consistent Remote Direct Access to Non-volatile Memory

50th International Conference on Parallel Processing, 2021
For performance benefits, recent trends of modern data centers tend to use NVM (Non-volatile Memory) as storage and utilize one-sided primitives of RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) to directly access NVM for I/O requests. However, one-sided RDMA doesn’t have durability semantics currently, and data may partially exist in the NVM when crashes happen ...

RGraph: Asynchronous graph processing based on asymmetry of remote direct memory access

Software: Practice and Experience, 2021
SummaryThe scale of real‐world graphs is constantly growing. To deal with large‐scale graphs, distributed graph processing has attracted much research efforts. Existing distributed graph processing systems are commonly built on traditional TCP/IP communication stack, which leads to network bottleneck because of low bandwidth and heavy kernel stack ...

Application Level Reordering of Remote Direct Memory Access Operations

2017 IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS), 2017
We present methods for the effective application level reordering of non-blocking RDMA operations. We supplement out-of-order hardware delivery mechanisms with heuristics to account for the CPU side overhead of communication and for differences in network latency: a runtime scheduler takes into account message sizes, destination and concurrency and ...
