Examination of the material removal mechanisms during the lapping process of advanced ceramic rolling elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Two types of HIPed Si3N4 bearing ball blanks with different surface hardness and fracture toughness were lapped under various loads, speeds, and lubricants using a novel eccentric lapping machine.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Random triangle removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Starting from a complete graph on $n$ vertices, repeatedly delete the edges of a uniformly chosen triangle. This stochastic process terminates once it arrives at a triangle-free graph, and the fundamental question is to estimate the final number of edges

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Numerical Analysis of the Energy Consumption of Ventilation and Dehumidification Processes in the Ice Rink Arena

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The reduction in energy use in buildings remains a major challenge. In the European Union, buildings account for approximately 40% of the total energy consumption, with sports facilities alone responsible for around 10% of annual use.

Film breakers prevent migration of aqueous potassium hydroxide in fuel cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Electrolyte film breakers made from polytetrafluoroethylene are installed in the reactant and water vapor removal outlets of each cell and sealed by elastomers.

Exploratory analysis of excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectra with self-organizing maps as a basis for determination of organic matter removal efficiency at water treatment works [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the paper, the self-organizing map (SOM) was employed for the exploratory analysis of fluorescence excitation-emission data characterizing organic matter removal efficiency at 16 water treatment works in the UK.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Effect of Indoor Green Walls on Environment Perception and Well-Being of Occupants in Office Buildings

open access: yesEnergies
Office employees often face discomfort due to dry air, impacting their productivity. Existing solutions like standalone humidifiers or HVAC-integrated systems are either inefficient or costly.
