Multiparametric MRI assessment of renal blood oxygenation, fat content, and hemodynamics in an animal model of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
AimsMetabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a significant risk factor for chronic kidney disease. There is a lack of an accurate and comprehensive technique for detecting MASLD-related renal injury. This study aims to evaluate

Intra-Renal Angiotensin Levels Are Increased in High-Fructose Fed Rats in the Extracorporeal Renal Perfusion Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Overconsumption of fructose leads to metabolic syndrome as a result of hypertension, insulin resistance, and hyperlipidemia. In this study, the renal function of animals submitted to high fructose intake was analyzed from weaning to adulthood using in ...

Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Cardiac Involvement in Chronic Kidney Disease: Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, and Complications

open access: yesHeart Views
There is a complex interaction between the heart and kidneys. Cardiac and renal function are both affected physically, chemically, and biologically. In end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality. The

Domain associated with zinc fingers‐containing NF90‐NF45 complex inhibits m6A modification of primary microRNA by suppressing METTL3/14 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NF90–NF45 functions as a negative regulator of methyltransferase‐like 3/14 (METTL3/14)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification on primary microRNAs (pri‐miRNAs). NF90–NF45 binds to anti‐oncogenic pri‐miRNAs and inhibits their m6A modification, thereby suppressing the biogenesis of anti‐oncogenic miRNAs.

The Flavoring Agent Ethyl Vanillin Induces Cellular Stress Responses in HK-2 Cells

open access: yesToxics
Flavored e-cigarettes are a popular alternative to cigarette smoking; unfortunately, the extrapulmonary effects are not well-characterized. Human proximal tubule cells were cultured for 24 or 48 h with 0–1000 µM ethyl vanillin (ETH VAN) and cytotoxicity ...

Cutaneous angiomyolipoma

open access: yesIndian Dermatology Online Journal, 2012
We report a case of cutaneous angiomyolipoma (AML) found on the anterior abdominal wall of a 3-year-old female child. Histologic examination showed a well-circumscribed nodule in the dermis composed of an intimate mixture of convoluted thick-walled blood
