Pseudostenosis or spasm of the renal artery was seen in approximately 2 per cent of selective renal arteriograms in 159 patients. It is believed to be caused by the mechanical irritation of the catheter or of the injection. It occurs for the most part in younger patients whose renal arteries are otherwise normal.
