Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Serum Neurofilament Light concentrations are not associated with renal function in secondary progressive multiple sclerosis

open access: yesBiomarkers in Neuropsychiatry, 2021
Background: Neurofilament Light (NFL) is a promising biomarker of neuroaxonal injury. Its utility may be improved by expression relative to age-matched controls and by adjusting for other covariates, such as body mass index.

Diagnosis, prevention and treatment of hepatorenal syndrome in cirrhosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a serious complication of end-stage liver disease, occurring mainly in patients with advanced cirrhosis and ascites, who have marked circulatory dysfunction,1 as well as in patients with acute liver failure.2 In spite of its

Synthetic Bilirubin‐Based Nanomedicine Protects Against Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury Through Antioxidant and Immune‐Modulating Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
BX‐001N, a polyethylene glycol‐conjugated bilirubin 3α nanoparticle, is the first GMP‐grade, synthetic bilirubin‐based nanomedicine. It effectively attenuates acute renal injury, facilitates subacute renal recovery, and suppresses chronic fibrosis after renal ischemia/reperfusion injury via anti‐oxidant and immune‐modulating activity.
