Current dialyzer classification in Japan and mortality risk in patients undergoing hemodialysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
Dialyzers are classified into five types based on their β2-microglobulin clearance rate and albumin sieving coefficient: Ia, Ib, IIa, and IIb. In addition, a new classification system introduced a type S dialyzer.

Effects of Disinfectants in Renal Dialysis Patients [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1986
Patients receiving hemodialysis therapy risk exposure to both disinfectants and sterilants. Dialysis equipment is disinfected periodically with strong solutions of hypochlorite or formaldehyde. More recently, reuse of dialyzers has introduced the use of additional sterilants, such as hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid.

Histone Lactylation‐Driven Upregulation of VRK1 Expression Promotes Stemness and Proliferation of Glioma Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain tumor, with glioma stem cells (GSCs) driving treatment resistance. This study reveals that lactate promotes histone lactylation (H3K18la) at the VRK1 promoter, regulating GSC stemness and proliferation via the H3K18la/VRK1/YBX1/SOX2 pathway. The VRK1‐targeted nanoliposome A/TMZ‐siVRK1 demonstrates

Targeted Expansion of Treg Cells to Induce Immune Tolerance after Kidney Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐targeting nanoparticle platform that selectively engages graft stromal cells via CD248 receptors while employing kidney‐ specific promoters (NPHS2) to drive localized IL‐ 2/TGF‐βexpression is developed. This approach achieves three therapeutic objectives:1) intragraft Treg polarization without systemic cytokine exposure;2) reduced dependence on ...

Residual renal function in incremental dialysis [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Kidney Journal, 2018
Incremental haemodialysis has the potential to allow better preservation of renal function, is less invasive to the patient and has lower cost. Despite these advantages, it is not commonly applied. This may be due to uncertainty about how to account for renal function in the prescription of dialysis and measurement of dose.

Tacrolimus rescue therapy for renal allograft rejection - Five-year experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Over the 5 year period from 7/14/1989 until 5/24/1994, we have attempted graft salvage with tacrolimus conversion in a total of 169 patients (median age 33 years, range 2-75 years) with ongoing rejection on baseline CsA immunosuppression after failure of

Type 2 Diabetes‐Associated Phenylacetylglutamine Induces Deleterious Inflammation Cycle in Myeloid Cells through β2 Adrenergic Receptors and Impedes Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microbiota‐derived metabolite phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln) is elevated in type 2 diabetes and tightly associated with poor healing in both diabetic and non‐diabetic human patients. PAGln promotes mouse inflammation and impairs healing through a transmissible β2‐adrenergic receptor–mediated trained‐immunity loop.

BACE2‐Induced Aberrant Lymphatic Network Aggravates the Local Inflammation in Arteriovenous Fistulas With Hyperphosphatemia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)‐C secreted by Pi16+ fibro‐progenitors lays the foundation of lymphatic network in mouse arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), whereas the elevated phosphate (Pi) in 5/6‐nephrectomy (Nx) mouse activates p‐ERK/p‐SP1/BACE2 pathway to generate additional soluble VEGFR‐3, which causes VEGF‐C unresponsiveness and defective ...
