Prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of coronary artery disease diagnosed by angiography in live-related kidney transplant candidates

open access: yesBMC Research Notes
Background Cardiac evaluation is critical pre-transplant to ensure better outcomes. This retrospective observational study aimed to determine the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and its predictors, and to study the impact of CAD on delayed ...

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) predicts adrenocortical carcinoma and is correlated with the prognosis

open access: yesBMC Urology, 2017
Background The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is reported as a biomarker for some solid malignant diseases. Thus far, however, no reports of the relationship between the NLR and adrenal tumors have been published.

Profiling Localized Immunomodulation and Drug Biodistribution within a Subcutaneous Vascularized Niche for Cell Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We studied how five common immunosuppressants behave when delivered directly to a transplant site instead of systemically. Using a vascularized implant for islet transplantation, we show that local delivery protects grafts, limits drug spread to the rest of the body, and produces distinct immune signatures.

Thoracic duct drainage in organ transplantation: Will it permit better immunosuppression? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
It is possible that thoracic-duct drainage, a major but neglected immunosuppressive adjunct, can have an important impact on organ transplantation.

Novel Vascular‐Adaptive Liquid Metal Microspheres Enable Visualized Arterial Embolization Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present drug‐loaded liquid metal microspheres (X‐MEN) as a novel agent for image‐guided arterial embolization. With inherent radiopacity and superior deformability, X‐MEN enables real‐time monitoring and conforms tightly to irregular vessels. This approach ensures precise, long‐lasting embolization without recanalization, addressing critical ...

Rituximab, plasma exchange and immunoglobulins: an ineffective treatment for chronic active antibody-mediated rejection

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2018
Background Chronic active antibody-mediated rejection (c-aABMR) is an important cause of allograft failure and graft loss in long-term kidney transplants.

Enhancing CAR‐T Cell Efficacy in Solid Tumors by Inhibiting CCL5/VEGF‐Mediated Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that CAR‐T cells in solid tumors produce CCL5, which paradoxically induces VEGF and angiogenesis to promote tumor growth. Blocking CCL5/VEGF signaling—through gene knockout, or the CCR5 inhibitor maraviroc—significantly enhances the antitumor efficacy of CAR‑T therapy (the diagram was created in Biorender).

A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

Pancreatic complications following orthotopic liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
During fiscal year 1986, 40 out of 196 patients (21%) developed hyperamylasemia following orthotopic liver transplantation. The placement of a retropancreatic aortohepatic arterial interposition graft was associated with hyperamylasemia (p < 0.025 ...
