Chapter 9 Infections caused by rubella, reoviridae, retro, Norwalk and ronaviruses

open access: greenPerspectives in Medical Virology, 1985
This chapter focuses on infections caused by rubella, reoviridae, retro, Norwalk and coronaviruses. High incidence of acute gastroenteritis caused by rotaviruses calls for prophylactic and therapeutic measures. Although no vaccine is presently available, it seems likely that vaccines will be developed in the next few years.

The Interplay between Bluetongue Virus Infections and Adaptive Immunity

open access: yesViruses, 2021
Viral infections have long provided a platform to understand the workings of immunity. For instance, great strides towards defining basic immunology concepts, such as MHC restriction of antigen presentation or T-cell memory development and maintenance ...

Portulaca oleracea L. Polysaccharide Inhibits Porcine Rotavirus In Vitro

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Diarrhea is one of the most common causes of death in young piglets. Porcine rotavirus (PoRV) belongs to the genus Rotavirus within the family Reoviridae, and is considered to be the primary pathogen causing diarrhea in piglets.

Experimental Infection of Culicoides lahillei (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) with Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Serotype 2 (Orhivirus: Reoviridae) [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Medical Entomology, 1996
To evaluate the vector competence of Culicoides lahillei Lutz for epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) viruses, wild-caught females were allowed to feed on 4 viremic white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus Zimmermann, experimentally infected with EHD virus serotype 2 (EHDV-2). Colonized C.

Inhibition of the IFN Response by Bluetongue Virus: The Story So Far

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Bluetongue virus (BTV) is the prototypical orbivirus that belongs to the Reoviridae family. BTV infection produces a disease in ruminants, particularly in sheep, that results in economic losses through reduced productivity. BTV is transmitted by the bite

Extensive Phylogenetic Analysis of Piscine Orthoreovirus Genomic Sequences Shows the Robustness of Subgenotype Classification

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) belongs to the family Reoviridae and has been described mainly in association with salmonid infections. The genome of PRV consists of about 23,600 bp, with 10 segments of double-stranded RNA, classified as small (S1 to S4 ...
