Long-term safety of human retinal progenitor cell transplantation in retinitis pigmentosa patients

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2017
Background Retinitis pigmentosa is a common genetic disease that causes retinal degeneration and blindness for which there is currently no curable treatment available.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Transplanted olfactory ensheathing cells promote regeneration of cut adult rat optic nerve axons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells into spinal cord lesions promotes regeneration of cut axons into terminal fields and functional recovery.

Cancer‐associated mutations in endometriosis reframe a benign disease through molecular oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review aims to comprehensively analyse cancer‐associated somatic mutations (CAMs) present in endometriotic lesions, emphasizing their biological roles, spatial distribution and implications for translational applications in medicine. By contextualizing a benign state within a genomic framework, this analysis seeks to establish its value as a ...

Far-ultraviolet light causes direct DNA damage in human lung cells and tissues

open access: yesScientific Reports
Far-ultraviolet C (Far-UVC) radiation, with a wavelength range from 200 to 235 nm, is germicidal and holds potential for clinical applications. However, its use against deep-seated and internal infections, such as those affecting the lungs, remains less ...

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Temporal dichotomy of neutrophil function in acute liver injury and repair

open access: yesJHEP Reports
Background & aims: Acetaminophen (APAP)-induced acute liver injury (APAP-ALI) is the leading cause of acute liver failure-induced death, with host innate immune responses driving outcomes.

The role of growth associated transcription factors c-Jun and ATMIN in neuronal regeneration and repair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Subsequent to neuronal injury, increased levels of protein synthesis accompany associated rises in transcription factor expression. Two transcription factors involved in the cellular stress response are c-Jun and ATMIN. Neuron-specific deletion of c-Jun

Tissue engineering for total meniscal substitution : Animal study in sheep model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the use of a novel hyaluronic acid/polycaprolactone material for meniscal tissue engineering and to evaluate the tissue regeneration after the augmentation of the implant with expanded autologous ...

Arginine methylation as a regulatory ratchet in cancer: From substrate selection to malignant‐state stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Arginine methylation can be viewed as a persistence‐prone post‐translational modification regulated by a network of PRMTs. Competitive and compensatory interactions among PRMTs can redistribute methylation across substrate pools shaped by sequence, structural, spatial, and environmental layers, reinforcing RNA‐processing, chromatin, and signaling ...
