A descriptive review of the use of organic acids and peracetic acid as a decontaminating strategy for meat

open access: yeseFood, Volume 4, Issue 4, August 2023., 2023
We provided extensive information of factors that affect the efficacy of organic and peracetic acids on meat decontamination. Rarely the log reductions and temperature of solutions are presented in the literature. Modifications on physico‐chemical and sensory aspects of meat do not appear to be worrisome. Organic acids and peracetic acid efficacy are a

Nutracêuticos na reprodução de touros e garanhões [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The industry has made available in the market a series of substances (nutraceuticals) which intent would be to optimize the use of nutrients in some metabolic paths, influencing positively reproductive performance in animals. However, the response to the

Microclimate refugia shape microclimatic niches and predict individual variability in post‐breeding migration in a partially migratory species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
The niche is characterized along a gradient of temperature and microclimate refugia. Individuals in breeding areas with low microclimate refugia availability are more likely to cover larger distances to post‐breeding areas, increasing exposure to risks.

Growth–survival trade‐off in temperate trees is weak and restricted to late‐successional stages

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
Our findings highlight a role of disturbances in filtering life‐history strategies and their potential impact on forest dynamics and global carbon cycling, but also a need to better understand the mediating processes of tree demographic trade‐offs.

Dietary Phosphorus Requirement for Tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, in the Grow‐Out Phase

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Phosphorus is essential for fish growth as it is crucial in skeletal development and metabolic reactions. The dietary requirement for this mineral varies among fish species and growth stages. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the available phosphorus (AP) requirement for tambaqui during the grow‐out phase (± 400 to 1000 g)

Could photoperiodic responses have evolved before the emergence of circadian clocks?

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Plants use photoperiod (i.e. day length) as a seasonal cue for timing when to flower. This ability, known as photoperiodism, also underlies phenomena such as migration, seasonal reproduction, and hibernation in animals. Because a circadian (daily) clock underlies the day/night length timing mechanism in most organisms, it has been generally ...
