Community dynamics of lignicolous lichens on standing deadwood in a 275‐year chronosequence
Dead trees provide discrete habitat patches in which patch quality changes gradually due to wood decomposition. Although in most cases these patches persist for not more than a few decades, in some ecosystems deadwood decomposition and the consequent change in habitat patch quality can be a centuries‐long process, potentially leading to dynamics of ...

Expansion of genes encoding piRNA-associated argonaute proteins in the pea aphid: diversification of expression profiles in different plastic morphs. [PDF]
Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are known to regulate transposon activity in germ cells of several animal models that propagate sexually. However, the role of piRNAs during asexual reproduction remains almost unknown.

Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

Monitoring fungicide resistance frequencies – a case study of barley net blotch
Droplet digital PCR revealed the frequency of alleles associated with decreased sensitivity to demethylation inhibitor (DMI) and succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides in Pyrenophora teres from barley net blotch in Western Australia. The findings highlight field‐level allele dynamics and emerging risks to fungicide efficacy.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play pivotal roles in regulating diverse biological processes across plants, mammals, and fungi. However, the information on lncRNAs in oomycete asexual and sexual reproduction, which are two pivotal processes in the ...

Fine-tuning sugar content in strawberry
Fine-tuning quantitative traits for continuous subtle phenotypes is highly advantageous. We engineer the highly conserved upstream open reading frame (uORF) of FvebZIPs1.1 in strawberry (Fragaria vesca), using base editor A3A-PBE. Seven novel alleles are

Genetic control of contagious asexuality in the pea aphid. [PDF]
Although evolutionary transitions from sexual to asexual reproduction are frequent in eukaryotes, the genetic bases of such shifts toward asexuality remain largely unknown.

An improved phylogeny and revised taxonomy of Catillariaceae (Lecanoromycetes, Ascomycota)
Abstract The boundaries of the family Catillariaceae have largely remained untested through phylogenetic methods. Recent studies have led to the transfer of several genera previously classified in Catillariaceae to the newly described family Leprocaulaceae. Despite these changes, the distinction between Catillariaceae, Leprocaulaceae, and Catinariaceae

Life history of Monocystis parasites and genetic diversity of their hosts, the invasive Amynthas earthworms [PDF]
Monocystis is a parasites in the phylum Apicomplexa that infects nearly 100% of earthworms; however, the parasites have low survivorship, low production of transmissible gametocysts, and seemingly lack schizogony.

Justification of Sexual Reproduction by Modified Penna Model of Ageing
We generalize the standard Penna bit-string model of biological ageing by assuming that each deleterious mutation diminishes the survival probability in every time interval by a small percentage. This effect is added to the usual lethal but age-dependent
