Role of symmetry in pattern reproduction
British Journal of Psychology, 1978The role of enantiomorphs (mirror images) as units of coding of symmetrical patterns was investigated. Simple symmetrical matrices were presented tachistoscopically for 0·3 sec and were immediately followed by 0·3 sec presentation of the same matrix but with half of its cells occluded. The subjects were required to reproduce the first matrix.

Abstract THIS chapter is concerned with the reproduction of human life in Iceland within the context of the social experience of the Icelanders. ‘Social reproduction’ does not necessarily imply repetition. The reproduction of culture may contain its own transformation (Sahlins 1982; 1985), and ‘events’ are never exact replicas of ...

QUANTIFYING PATTERNS IN THE EVOLUTION OF REPRODUCTIVE ISOLATION
Evolution, 2004We present a likelihood-based statistical method for examining the pattern or rate of evolution of reproductive isolation. The method uses large empirical datasets to estimate, for a given clade, the average duration of two phases in the divergence of populations. The first phase is a lag phase and refers to the period during which lineages diverge but

Population policies and reproductive patterns in Vietnam
The Lancet, 1996Vietnam's population policy since the 1980s had stipulated a limit on family size to two children, born 3-5 years apart, and recommends a minimum age of 19 for the mother of a first child. We analysed trends in the timing of marriages and births, and in fertility and abortion rates, among women born between 1945 and 1970, to assess the impact of these ...

Patterns of fertility at later ages of reproduction
Journal of Biosocial Science, 1979This paper discusses some of the things that demographers know about fertility at later ages of reproduction in developed countries. The nature of the information available through, for example, vital statistics is often a product of history and of administrative requirements, rather than the result of a well-based scheme.

Reproductive Patterns in the Deep-Sea Benthos
Science, 1974The reproductive condition of a variety of benthic invertebrates from the bathyal San Diego Trough was monitored periodically. In this physically seasonless, deep-sea environment most species reproduce throughout the year, and only a few display highly synchronous, annual reproductive cycles.

Form Perception: Dimensions of Pattern Reproduction
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1971Results from size and jaggedness judgments of 15 polygons by 17 Ss indicate that judgments were based on two-feature measures of 8-sided polygons (area and the ratio of perimeter to area, p < .01). One group of 12 Ss was required to draw 15 polygons freehand and was given 15 min. to complete the task.
