Inequity in the transmission of malaria infection among children and adolescents: a cohort study in rural Guinea

open access: yesScientific Reports
Malaria remains a major health concern in rural Guinea, where children face fivefold higher infection risk compared to urban areas. While disparities between rural and urban regions have been documented, inequities within rural areas remain unexplored ...

The behaviour and reproductive physiology of the fossa (Cryptoprocta ferox) in captivity

open access: yes, 2005
PhDThe fossa (Cryptoproctaferox) is a solitary carnivore and the largest endemic mammal extant on Madagascar. It is estimated that less than 2500 individuals survive on the island and they are currently listed by the IUCN as endangered.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

NGF, EPO, and IGF-1 in the Male Reproductive System

open access: yes
Several studies have demonstrated interesting results considering the implication of three growth factors (GFs), namely nerve growth factor (NGF), erythropoietin (EPO), and the insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-1) in the physiology of male reproductive ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Sperm Selection Using Microfluidic Techniques Significantly Decreases Sperm DNA Fragmentation (SDF), Enhancing Reproductive Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yes
This study aimed to compare sperm parameters and reproductive outcomes after sperm selection using microfluidic chips versus conventional techniques (swim-up/density gradients). A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed after the extraction of

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Out-of-pocket payment for assisted reproductive techniques in the public health sector in South Africa - how do households cope?

open access: yes, 2011
Includes bibliographical references. In South Africa assisted reproductive techniques (ART) are poorly covered by health insurances or government funding thereby often inflicting out-of-pocket payment (OPP) on patients.
