In this paper a description is given of a model programming system which is directed by a programming language and has a library for storing the user's items. Rules are given for transforming programs written in the language and for rearranging the items in the library so that they share their common parts.

Cellular reprogramming involves the artificial dedifferentiation of somatic cells to a pluripotent state. When affected by overexpressing specific transcription factors, the process is highly inefficient, as only 0.1-1% of cells typically undergo the transformation.

Regeneration and reprogramming
Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 2012Recent reprogramming studies indicate that mammalian, somatic cells have the potential to achieve pluripotent states and undergo cell type switching. Such cellular traits are observed under natural conditions in animals that regenerate complex organs. A number of invertebrates display the amazing trait of whole body regeneration.

Advances in Reprogramming to Pluripotency
Current Stem Cell Research & Therapy, 2015Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) derived from somatic cells represent a powerful experimental tool for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the disease phenotype; with prospects to advance medical therapies. They also have significant potential as a renewable source of autologous cells for cellular therapy.

The concept of reprogramming a cell is very intriguing and has immense therapeutic potential. Examples from physiology and developmental biology suggest that it may well be possible. Experimental approaches are beginning to suggest this also, in particular the initially astonishing accomplishment of somatic cell nuclear transfer and cloning.
