A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Requirements and analysis: where is the boundary if any?

open access: yesJournal of Computer Science and Technology, 2005
The concept of System Analysis was very common in the early stages of information systems. Different approaches to System Analysis share the goal of learning about the current system to establish the basis of the new system (Swanson, R., An introduction ...

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Requirements analysis of the VoD application using the tools in TRADE [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
This report contains a specification of requirements for a video-on-demand (VoD) application developed at Belgacom, used as a trial application in the 2RARE project. The specification contains three parts: an informal specification in natural language; a

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Dataset Constrution through Ontology-Based Data Requirements Analysis

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Machine learning (ML) technology is rapidly evolving, and the quality of ML systems is becoming an increasingly focal point of attention. Since the ML system is shaped by the dataset it learns from, its quality largely depends on the quality of the ...

A public finance analysis of multiple reserve requirements [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper analyzes multiple reserve requirements of the type that have been imposed by a number of developing countries. We show that previous theoretical work on this topic has not succeeded in providing a social welfare rationale for the existence of ...
