Entering Academic Psychiatry: A Resident\u27s Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
University-based psychiatry residency programs encourage the pursuit of academic careers, both on admission, by favoring applicants with evidence of a commitment to investigation, and after residency training, by selecting as faculty residents who have ...

Forecasting the cost of processing multi-join queries via hashing for main-memory databases (Extended version)

open access: yes, 2015
Database management systems (DBMSs) carefully optimize complex multi-join queries to avoid expensive disk I/O. As servers today feature tens or hundreds of gigabytes of RAM, a significant fraction of many analytic databases becomes memory-resident.

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Machine Learning to Improve Resident Scheduling: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Resident Wellness

open access: yesJournal of Regional Medical Campuses
Introduction: Excessive resident duty hours (RDH) is a recognized issue with implications for physician well-being and patient safety. A significant component of the RDH concern is on-call duty.

On Beckmann's Dispersed "Interaction City" [PDF]

open access: yes
Beckmann's interaction model has each resident touching base in face-to-face activity with every other resident, per unit time, at the other's residence.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Evaluating the Satisfaction and Skills of Third Year Residents of Internal Medicine Ward in the Endoscopy Training Program Using Gastric Moulage Prepared in Sina Hospital Iran [PDF]

open access: yesStrides in Development of Medical Education, 2015
Background & Objective: Considering the possible risks of performing endoscopy training on patients the use of a moulage prior to training seems reasonable The aim of this study was to evaluate residents rate of satisfaction with the training process and
