Assessing short-term feed efficiency and its association with biological markers in herbage-fed dairy cows

open access: yesAnimal
Feed efficiency is an important trait of dairy production. However, assessing feed efficiency is constrained by the associated cost and difficulty in measuring individual feed intake, especially on pastures. The objective of this study was to investigate

Identification of a metabolomic signature associated with feed efficiency in beef cattle

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2019
Background Ruminants play a great role in sustainable livestock since they transform pastures, silage, and crop residues into high-quality human food (i.e. milk and beef).

Electro‐Steric Ion Confinement in Polyelectrolyte Networks for Robust Nonvolatile Artificial Synapse

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte stoichiometry governs ion transport and retention in electrolyte‐gated synaptic transistors. A PSS‐rich network creates electro‐steric ion confinement that suppresses ion back‐diffusion and stabilizes channel doping, enabling robust nonvolatile synaptic memory, linear weight updates, and low‐energy operation.

Single-Step Methodology for Genomic Evaluation in Turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo)

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Genomic information can contribute significantly to the increase in accuracy of genetic predictions compared to using pedigree relationships alone. The main objective of this study was to compare the prediction ability of pedigree-based best linear ...

Molecular genetics of residual feed intake and mitochondrial function in cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Residual feed intake (RFI) is a measure of net feed efficiency, an economically important trait in livestock. RFI is affected by many factors including genetics and diet although residual feed intake is usually independent of diet as it is calculated for

Digitizing the Filtration Interface: A Smart, Modular Janus Wood Platform for Self‐Reporting Oil/Water Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work developed a smart Janus wood membrane integrating asymmetric wettability with built‐in electrical sensing for oil‐water separation. The membrane achieved > 99.5% separation efficiency and high flux by leveraging wood's natural anisotropic pore structure.

Comparative analysis of the hypothalamus transcriptome of laying ducks with different residual feeding intake

open access: yesPoultry Science
: Feed costs account for approximately 60 to 70% of the cost of poultry farming, and feed utilization is closely related to the profitability of the poultry industry.

MXene Wrapped Magnetic Mesocrystals for Durable Redox Catalytic Cancer Therapy and Responsive MRI

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Conformal wrapping of ultrathin Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets on Fe3O4 mesocrystals creates topology‐stabilized Schottky junctions that direct photoinduced electron transfer under NIR irradiation. The unique architecture sustains Fenton catalysis, promotes continuous hydroxyl radical production, and provides photo‐responsive MRI contrast.

Residual feed intake, breed of sire and dam, and individual sire affect performance and carcass characteristics and rates of back fat and intramuscular fat of feedlot steers

open access: yes, 2010
One hundred and fifty eight Angus (A), Simmental (S), Angus-Simmental, and Simmental-Angus steers across two years across were classified into high (H), medium (M), and low (L) residual feed intake (RFI) groups. Steers in the H RFI group ate 1 kg more of

Association of a single nucleotide polymorphism in the bovine leptin gene with feed intake, feed efficiency, growth, feeding behaviour, carcass quality and body composition

open access: yes, 2004
Leptin is a 16-kDa-hormone product of the obese gene synthesized and expressed predominantly by adipose tissues, which has been shown to play major roles in the regulation of body weight, feed intake, energy balance, fertility, and immune system ...
