Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Influence of plaster drying on the amount of residual monomer in heat-cured acrylic resins

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oral Sciences, 2015
Aim: To evaluate the influence of plaster condition, dry or not, on the amount of residual monomer in heat-cured acrylic resin. Methods: Thirty acrylic resin specimens (65x10x3 mm) were fabricated and randomly assigned to 5 groups (n=6).

Analysis of Monomer Release from Different Composite Resins after Bleaching by HPLC

open access: yesLife, 2022
(1) Background: This study aimed to examine the effect of bleaching agents on the release of triethylenae glycol dimethacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, bisphenol A, urethane dimethacrylate, and bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate monomers, which are ...

Residual entropy in a model for the unfolding of single polymer chains

open access: yes, 2007
We study the unfolding of a single polymer chain due to an external force. We use a simplified model which allows to perform all calculations in closed form without assuming a Boltzmann-Gibbs form for the equilibrium distribution.

Mass Spectrometric Characterization of Oligomers in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Azurin Solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We have employed laser-induced liquid bead ion desorption mass spectroscopy (LILBID MS) to study the solution behavior of Pseudomonas aeruginosa azurin as well as two mutants and corresponding Re-labeled derivatives containing a Re(CO)_(3)(4,7-dimethyl-1,

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structure of 3,4-Dihydroxy-2-butanone 4-Phosphate Synthase from Methanococcus jannaschii in Complex with Divalent Metal Ions and the Substrate Ribulose 5-Phosphate: implications for the catalytic mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Skeletal rearrangements of carbohydrates are crucial for many biosynthetic pathways. In riboflavin biosynthesis ribulose 5-phosphate is converted into 3,4-dihydroxy-2-butanone 4-phosphate while its C4 atom is released as formate in a sequence of metal ...

Epoxy–amine/metal interphases: Influences from sharp needle-like crystal formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
When epoxy–amine liquid mixtures are applied onto metallic oxide layer, concomitant amine chemical sorption and metallic surface dissolution appear leading to the organo-metallic complex formation.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Straightforward preparation of fluorinated covalent triazine frameworks with significantly enhanced carbon dioxide and hydrogen adsorption capacities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The development of advanced functional porous materials for efficient carbon capture and separation is of prime importance with respect to energy and environmental sustainability and employing covalent triazine frameworks as the adsorbents for carbon ...
