Endocrine Disruptors and the Induction of Insulin Resistance

Current Diabetes Reviews, 2021
Introduction: The incidence of insulin resistance syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus has increased at an alarming rate worldwide and constitutes a serious challenge to public health care in the 21st century. Endocrine disrupting chemicals are defined as “substances or mixtures of substances that alter the endocrine system function[s] and, hence ...

Induction of Resistance or Susceptibility

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 1983
Unlike animals, plants have no antibody-mediated resistance mechanisms. During their evolution, however, plants acquired not only the ability to adapt to hostile environments, but also versatile defense mechanisms against enemies. Pathogens, On the other hand, have evolved to overcome the physical and chemical barriers the plants invented for their ...

The Structural Basis for Induction of VanB Resistance

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2002
Because teicoplanin and vancomycin are the last line of defense for many bacterial infections, the emergence of resistance to glycopeptide antibiotics in enterococci and streptococci has aroused concern. Despite their similarity in terms of structure and mechanism of action, vancomycin induces the expression of genes that leads to bacterial resistance,

Induction by ethylene of cyanide-resistant respiration

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1976
Ethylene and cyanide induce an increase in respiration in a variety of plant tissues, whereas ethylene has no effect on tissues whose respiration is strongly inhibited by cyanide. It is suggested that the existence of a cyanide-insensitive electron transport path is a prerequisite for stimulation of respiration by ethylene.

Induction of resistance in Mycobacterium smegmatis

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 2013
In this work, we assayed the ability of newly prepared indolizine derivates (epimers) 6C and 6A to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium smegmatis and used them for resistance induction. 6A inhibited the growth of M. smegmatis at a concentration of 100 μg/mL. No inhibitory effect was observed in the presence of 6C. By incubating the bacteria with 6C and

Helicobacter pylori: In vitro Induction of Resistance to Azithromycin

Chemotherapy, 1997
Helicobacter pylori resistance to macrolides is possibly an important factor for the failure of macrolide therapy for H. pylori infection. The aim of this study was to assess the propensity of H. pylori to develop in vitro resistance to azithromycin.

Induction on Insulin Resistance In Vitro

Cellular model serves as a crucial preclinical research tool, providing essential insights into the mechanistic aspects of disease biology. Particularly in the study of chronic metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, palmitate (a saturated fatty acid) is often used as a key inducer of insulin resistance in vitro.

FRI: Failure-resistant induction in RRL

1992
We have described briefly a proof manager called FRI, which supports the cover set induction method of RRL. We believe that FRI makes the cover set method more powerful and applicable to a wider class of equational theories for automating inductive proofs. Without FRI, we could not obtain a proof of the Chinese Remainder theorem [9].

Comparison of Inductive and Resistive SFCL

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2013
This article presents a comparison of inductive and resistive superconducting fault current limiter built with the same length of high temperature superconducting (HTS) tape. The resistive limiter is constructed as a noninductive bifilar winding. The inductive coreless limiter consists of primary winding and secondary shorted winding. Both limiters are

Induction motor resistance ring width

Electrical Engineering, 1936
The effect which the width of resistance rings has on the secondary resistance of squirrel cage induction motors has been subjected to a mathematical analysis. It is found that the width, in a radial direction, of these rings which connect the conductors of a squirrel cage rotor, need never exceed the pole pitch, and probably half of that value is ...
