Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Co-fumigation with phosphine and sulfuryl fluoride: Potential for managing strongly phosphine-resistant rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens)

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2018
Populations of rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus, have developed a very high level of resistance (1300×) to the fumigant phosphine (PH3) in Australia.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Susceptibility of phosphine-resistant cigarette beetles to various insecticides

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2018
Management of phosphine resistance in the cigarette beetle Lasioderma serricorne (F.) has become a topic of great interest to the tobacco industry in recent years.

Surgical Management of Resistant Priapism [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Surgery, 2011
We report a 31 year old patient, presented with painful erection since 48 hours. There was no known predisposing factor on history and examination. Surgery for priapism is rarely indicated nowadays but conservative management failed to achieve detumescence in our case.

Factors affecting the rotational use of insecticides for the management of resistance in mosquitoes [PDF]

open access: yes
The rotation of the use of chemically unrelated insecticides has been advocated to delay the build up of resistance. To examine this concept in the laboratory, Anopheles albimanus and Culex guinquefasciatus were subjected

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The mechanisms of treatment resistance in psychiatry in the aspects of pharmacodynamics of psychotropic drugs

open access: yesОбозрение психиатрии и медицинской психологии имени В.М. Бехтерева, 2018
Treatment resistance is a persistent neurochemical condition characterized by the presence of the «hybrid», combined pathological and drug metabolism.

Design and Preclinical Development of a Phage Product for the Treatment of Antibiotic-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Bacteriophages, viruses that only kill specific bacteria, are receiving substantial attention as nontraditional antibacterial agents that may help alleviate the growing antibiotic resistance problem in medicine.
