Multiple radiations and its effect on biological system – a review on in vitro and in vivo mechanisms

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine
Purpose We are exposed to different types of radiation from natural sources or for biomedical diagnostic and therapeutic purposes at different doses or times.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Hierarchies of resistance to DNA damage response inhibitors: from pathway restoration to replication stress tolerance

open access: yesExperimental Hematology & Oncology
DNA damage response (DDR) inhibitors have reshaped precision oncology by exploiting tumor-specific vulnerabilities in genome maintenance and replication stress control. The clinical success of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors—particularly in

Damage Resistance of an fMRI-Spiking Neural Network Based on Speech Recognition Against Stochastic Attack

open access: yesBiomimetics
Brain-like models are commonly used for pattern recognition, but they face significant performance degradation in neuromorphic hardware when exposed to complex electromagnetic environments.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Damages, devastation, and resistance

open access: yes, 2014
The damages caused by war haveleft unimaginable marks on thevictims of the protracted armedconflict in Colombia. The destructionof thousands of homes, socialorganizations and cultural traditionsare not just attacks against somespecific communities, but rather, attacks on the country’s identityand the entire population that hassuffered the effects of a ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
