Interference between Resonant and Nonresonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2013
A detailed study of inelastic x-ray scattering from the ground state to the 3Σg(3σ(g)(-1)3s(g)1) state of the O2 molecule is presented. The observed angular anisotropy shows that the vibrational excitations within this final state are strongly dependent on the polarization of the incident radiation.

Tunable optical cavity for an x-ray free-electron-laser oscillator

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2009
An x-ray free-electron laser oscillator proposed recently for hard x rays [K. Kim, Y. Shvyd’ko, and S. Reiche, Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 244802 (2008)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.100.244802] can be made tunable by using an x-ray cavity composed of four

Fingerprint Oxygen Redox Reactions in Batteries through High-Efficiency Mapping of Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering [PDF]

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2018
Realizing reversible reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions of lattice oxygen in batteries is a promising way to improve the energy and power density. However, conventional oxygen absorption spectroscopy fails to distinguish the critical oxygen chemistry ...

Elucidating anionic oxygen activity in lithium-rich layered oxides

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
A reversible oxygen redox process contributes extra capacity and understanding this behavior is of high importance. Here, aided by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering, the authors reveal the distinctive anionic oxygen activity of battery electrodes with ...

The beamline ID32 at the ESRF for soft X-ray high energy resolution resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and polarisation dependent X-ray absorption spectroscopy

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A : Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2018
The ID32 Soft X-ray Beamline line is an ESRF upgrade beamline for X-ray absorption (XAS) and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) spectroscopic studies.

Stochastic stimulated electronic x-ray Raman spectroscopy

open access: yesStructural Dynamics, 2016
Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) is a well-established tool for studying electronic, nuclear, and collective dynamics of excited atoms, molecules, and solids. An extension of this powerful method to a time-resolved probe technique at x-ray free

Spin Dynamics in the van der Waals Ferromagnet CrTe2 Engineered by Niobium Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spin‐dynamic magnetic properties of van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnet 1T‐CrTe2 are tuned via niobium (Nb) as Cr1‐xNbxTe2 (x = 0–0.2). Nb doping enables wide‐band tuning of the resonance frequency from 40 GHz down to the few‐GHz regime, accompanied by a moderate increase in the Gilbert damping from ∼0.066 to ∼0.14.

Direct experimental observation of the molecular J eff = 3/2 ground state in the lacunar spinel GaTa4Se8

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
The strong interaction between electron spin and orbital degrees of freedom in 5d oxides can lead to exotic electronic ground states. Here the authors use resonant inelastic X-ray scattering to demonstrate that the theoretically proposed J eff = 3/2 ...

Particle-hole asymmetry in the dynamical spin and charge responses of corner-shared 1D cuprates

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
The underlying mechanism of the superconductivity in high-Tc cuprates and the role spin and charge excitations play has been under debate since the cuprates were first discovered.
