Abstract Genomic information can aid in the establishment of sustainable management plans for commercially exploited marine fishes, aiding in the long‐term conservation of these resources. The southern African hakes (Merluccius capensis and M. paradoxus) are commercially valuable demersal fishes with similar distribution ranges but exhibiting ...

Abstract Identifying sex‐linked markers in genomic datasets is important because their presence in supposedly neutral autosomal datasets can result in incorrect estimates of genetic diversity, population structure and parentage. However, detecting sex‐linked loci can be challenging, and available scripts neglect some categories of sex‐linked variation.

Abstract The Harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) is a highly mobile cetacean species primarily occurring in coastal and shelf waters across the Northern hemisphere. It inhabits heterogeneous seascapes broadly varying in salinity and temperature. Here, we produced 74 whole genomes at intermediate coverage to study Harbour porpoise's evolutionary ...

Individual‐based landscape genomics for conservation: An analysis pipeline
Abstract Landscape genomics can harness environmental and genetic data to inform conservation decisions by providing essential insights into how landscapes shape biodiversity. The massive increase in genetic data afforded by the genomic era provides exceptional resolution for answering critical conservation genetics questions.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...

Essential work, invisible workers: The role of digital curation in COVID‐19 Open Science
Abstract In this paper, we examine the role digital curation practices and practitioners played in facilitating open science (OS) initiatives amid the COVID‐19 pandemic. In Summer 2023, we conducted a content analysis of available information regarding 50 OS initiatives that emerged—or substantially shifted their focus—between 2020 and 2022 to address ...

Abstract Black wattle (Acacia mearnsii De Wild.) is a key tree crop in South Africa, valued for its bark and timber, both of which contribute significantly to export revenue. Wattle bark harvesting begins with the rainy season in September and extends to May. During this time, harvested bark is transported to three processing facilities.

Heterogeneous catalysts can enhance the selectivity of oxidation reactions using N2O as oxidizing Agent with proper modification of catalyst phase, surface area, and acidity. N₂O activation leads to generating reactive oxygen species, facilitating selective oxidation and dehydrogenation to produce various products such as oxygenates, hydrocarbons, and ...
