GPS: A Lightweight Greedy-Predictive Scheduling Approach for Energy-Aware Multi-Region Cloud Computing

open access: yesFuture Internet
Efficient resource allocation and task scheduling remain fundamental challenges in cloud computing because of resource heterogeneity, dynamic workload characteristics, and the increasing demand for scalable, energy-efficient, and sustainable cloud ...

Castration‐resistant prostate cancer cells are addicted to the high activity of cyclin‐dependent kinase 2

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that emergence of castration‐resistant prostate (CRPC) is associated with significant upregulation of cyclins that positively regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and concomitant downregulation of CDK4 cyclins. This renders CRPC cells dependent on the high activity of CDK2, and CDK2 inhibitors synergistically sensitize CRPC cells to both ...

Stability and resource allocation in project planning. [PDF]

open access: yes
The majority of resource-constrained project scheduling efforts assumes perfect information about the scheduling problem to be solved and a static deterministic environment within which the pre-computed baseline schedule is executed.

Trust-aware dynamic level scheduling algorithm in cloud environment

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2014
Based on interpersonal trust model in sociology,a trust evaluation model is proposed based on users’ past experience with service provider, friends’ recommendations and third party’s feedback.By combining users’ trust requirement for service resource ...

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Implementation determinants of a planned machine learning-enabled surgical scheduling system in a high-volume orthopaedic centre in Canada: qualitative findings

open access: yesBMJ Open
Objectives Elective non-emergent surgical wait times have increased across countries such as Canada, straining operating room (OR) resources and affecting patient outcomes and healthcare spending.

NAPRT loss promotes lung tumor initiation and growth through AKT signaling independently of NAD+ biosynthesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of NAPRT promotes lung tumor initiation and growth through a noncanonical mechanism, independent of its role in NAD+ biosynthesis. Mechanistically, NAPRT depletion activates the mTORC2‐driven AKT/β‐catenin signaling axis to enhance clonogenic and invasive phenotypes. Furthermore, lung‐specific Naprt deletion significantly increases tumor burden in

Proactive and reactive strategies for resource-constrained project scheduling with uncertain resource availabilities. [PDF]

open access: yes
Research concerning project planning under uncertainty has primarily focused on the stochastic resource-constrained project scheduling problem (stochastic RCPSP), an extension of the basic CPSP, in which the assumption of deterministic activity durations

Resource allocation and scheduling in metasystems

open access: yes, 1999
In this paper we present NWIRE, a new management architecture for metacomputing systems. After the general introduction of the architecture we first describe the properties that are relevant for scheduling. Then we derive general requirements for scheduling strategies in metasystems and point out differences to conventional job scheduling for parallel ...

Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.
