It seems the citizenry has always viewed the world as going to the dogs. The perturbations of one or another great man as far back as classical Greece or Rome or the Bible may be cited to indicate that the world has never been without turmoil. With this reassurance, anxiety is assuaged and there appears to develop an immunity of sorts.
