Control and Filtering for Discrete Linear Repetitive Processes with H infty and ell 2--ell infty Performance

open access: yes, 2009
Repetitive processes are characterized by a series of sweeps, termed passes, through a set of dynamics defined over a finite duration known as the pass length.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Effects of stress and treatment, respectively.

open access: yes, 2013
(A) Four weeks exposure to chronic mild stress (CMS rats, n = 249) resulted in a significantly decreased sucrose consumption when compared to unchallenged controls (n = 80).

Evidence for a new species of whitefly: UCR findings and implications

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1993
The whitefly that caused over $500 million in damage to U.S. agricultural production in 1991 initially was referred to as a strain of sweetpotato whitefly.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Husimi functions at dielectric interfaces: Inside-outside duality for optical systems and beyond . [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We introduce generalized Husimi functions at the interfaces of dielectric systems. Four different functions can be defined, corresponding to the incident and departing wave on both sides of the interface.

Respect, Self-Respect, and Self-Knowledge

open access: yesThe Monist
Abstract Knowledge and respect exhibit a puzzling self-other asymmetry: Self-respect generates an imperative to know oneself, but as the objectionability of paternalism and privacy violations illustrate, respect for others can require that we avoid acquiring, or making use of, knowledge we have about them.
