Self‐Powered Respiration Monitoring Enabled By a Triboelectric Nanogenerator
Advances in Materials, 2021In mammals, physiological respiration involves respiratory cycles of inhaled and exhaled breaths, which has traditionally been an underutilized resource potentially encompassing a wealth of physiologically relevant information as well as clues to ...

This chapter discusses the respiratory system of giraffes. The respiratory system supplies oxygen, removes of carbon dioxide and produces the airflow needed to make sounds. Giraffes do not have the velocity of airflow through the airways to vibrate vocal cords sufficiently to generate sounds able to be heard by humans but can produce sounds able to be ...

The primary function of the respiratory system is gas exchange—delivering oxygen from the environment to the tissues, and removing carbon dioxide from the tissues. Maintaining a constant and high body temperature and exercise in flight create very high demands for oxygen delivery, and birds have evolved a unique respiratory system to meet these demands.

These experiments would seem to prove that no special spiracles are used for inhaling and others used for exhaling, but rather that all are alike in this respect, as the abdomen expands air is taken in and as the body contracts the gases are exhaled.
