Increasing Cardiac Rate by Tracking the Respiratory Rate

Respiratory Rate as a Determinant of Optimal Pacing Rate

RESPIRATORY RATES IN PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY PATIENTS
Southern Medical Journal, 1990Respiratory rates are routinely measured in pediatric emergency patients. The normal range has not been established, and commonly reported ranges seem lower than those encountered in clinical practice. This prospective study selected subjects from pediatric patients presenting for care to a suburban emergency department.

Respiratory rate as an indicator of acute respiratory dysfunction.
JAMA, 1980To assess respiratory rate as an indicator of acute respiratory dysfunction, we studied 58 consecutive patients four times daily during the postoperative period. Of 825 measurements of respiratory rate, 726 (89%) were normal (24/min or less). Elevations in respiratory rate without respiratory dysfunction were found in only 4% of all measurements ...

Efficient Respiratory Rate Extraction on a Smartwatch
2020 42nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2020Using the Photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor of a smartwatch to extract Respiratory Rate (RR) is very attractive. However, existing algorithms suffer from lack of accuracy and susceptibility to noise and movement artifacts. To tackle this issue, we propose performing Frequency Domain Peak (FDP) analysis using the Frequency Modulation (FM) feature ...

Heart rate variability in subjects with different respiratory rates
Human Physiology, 2006The variability of the cardiac rhythm was studied in males with different initial respiratory rates. At rest and during voluntarily controlled breathing, subjects with medium respiratory rates were found to have a less variable heart rate than their counterparts with low or high respiratory rates.

Correcting respiratory rate for the presence of fever
Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 1994This study defines what degree of respiratory rate (RR) elevation can be attributed to fever using a double blind randomized pre- and post-acetaminophen comparison of vital signs of febrile children presenting to an outpatient clinic. Inclusion criteria were aged between 6 weeks and 24 months, fever between 38.5 and 40.1 degrees C, no serious illness ...

Respiratory recovery rates after poliomyelitis
The American Journal of Medicine, 1954Abstract Over 1,000 young adults and children have recently survived the acute stage of poliomyelitis in the United States only to be left with permanent or protracted respiratory muscle paralysis with more or less complete quadriplegia. Through realistic and timely planning much can actually be offered these severely disabled patients.

Respiratory rates in emergency department patients
The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1989The respiratory rate is a sensitive and nonspecific indicator of respiratory dysfunction. Establishing a "normal" respiratory rate has mainly been arbitrary. This study evaluated "normal" respiratory rates in 110 emergency department patients. The mean respiratory rate was 20.1 (+/- 4.0).
