The Respiratory System

The respiratory system is a mechanism for moving oxygen from the air to the lungs and then into the blood and for moving carbon dioxide in the opposite direction. Because carbon dioxide when dissolved in water becomes an acid, the lungs are very important in the regulation of acid-base balance.
