Spectroscopic Investigations of a Vandalized Contemporary Acrylic Painting on Canvas Using Model Paintings and Chemometrics. [PDF]
Sequentially shifted excitation (SSE) Raman results on artificiallyaged acrylic‐based model paints and Tela (1973) canvas painting by Griffa suggest the surface enrichment in surfactant. Vandalic trait, with an orange felt‐tip pen, consists of an acrylic binder and azo‐dyes.

Ability of new protected areas to counteract losses from downgrading, downsizing, and degazettement. [PDF]
Abstract Protected area downgrading, downsizing, and degazettement (PADDD) is a common occurrence. Although PADDD is expected to weaken biodiversity protection, PADDD offsets and new unrelated protected areas (PAs) could help restore representation of biodiversity features to the reserve network affected by PADDD.

The resulting SHINERS spectra are comparable with normal Raman spectrum of alizarin adsorbed in silica, not that of isolated alizarin. Both Ag@SiO2 and Au@SiO2 were considered, and their spectra are dependent on the interaction of alizarin with silica, rather than the specific metal core within.

Virus‐induced spore formation as a defense mechanism in marine diatoms
Summary Algal viruses are important contributors to carbon cycling, recycling nutrients and organic material through host lysis. Although viral infection has been described as a primary mechanism of phytoplankton mortality, little is known about host defense responses.
