A Hybrid RF Coil for Whole‐Brain Imaging in Non‐Human Primates at 7 T

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 2, Page 996-1010, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Ultra‐high field MRI (≥ 7 T) offers unprecedented potential for mapping non‐human primate (NHP) brain function. However, complex electromagnetic systems are required to meet the challenges of UHF imaging and the mechanical demands of awake NHP studies.

Preclinical 1H MRS Study of a Porcine Model Shows Evidence and Mechanisms for Acute Neuronal Injury in Neonatal Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) Surgery

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 2, Page 557-567, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Congenital heart disease affects 1% of US births, with some infants requiring cardiothoracic surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Optimal surgical parameters to minimize neuronal injury are unknown. We used serial 1H MRS in a neonatal CPB porcine model to assess acute neuronal damage and associated injury mechanisms.

Task‐Evoked Functional Activation and Coupling With CSF Flow Detected in the Human Brain With Ultrashort Echo Time fMRI at 7 T

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2026.
Ultrashort and zero echo time (UTE and ZTE) MRI techniques generate functional contrast through inflow effects, making them suitable for studying cerebral blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics. In a 7‐T study of 13 participants performing a visual task, we demonstrate that UTE produced robust, reproducible activations with group‐level ...

Skeletal Motor Unit Recruitment During Periodic Auditory Cueing: A Simultaneous Behavioral and Motor Unit Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MUMRI) Study

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2026.
We developed a reproducible motor unit MRI (MUMRI) foot‐tapping paradigm for imaging voluntary muscle recruitment during rhythmic movement. Healthy participants showed stable behavioral performance and consistent activation patterns. The protocol establishes an optimal acquisition strategy and supports future applications in neuromuscular disease ...

Dissecting the Strain and Sex Specific Connectome Signatures of Unanesthetized C57BL/6J and DBA/2J Mice Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesGenes, Brain and Behavior, Volume 25, Issue 4, August 2026.
C57BL/6J and DBA/2J mice were used to investigate strain and sex‐specific features of the brain connectome in awake animals using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). By combining resting‐state and diffusion MRI, we found significant differences in the motor, sensory, limbic, and salience networks between C57BL/6J and DBA/2J mice.
