Measured Resting Energy Expenditure in Children
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 1993SummaryThe majority of equations used to predict values for basal metabolic rates (BMRs) are the result of indirect calorimetry measurements performed in the 1930s and 1950s. To assess the reliability of these equations in predicting the resting energy expenditure (REE) of the children in our community, indirect calorimetry was performed on 92 male and

Resting energy expenditure in brain death
Intensive Care Medicine, 1999To evaluate resting energy expenditure (REE) in brain dead patients and to investigate the hypothesis that the reduction in REE results from a decrease in cerebral blood flow.Prospective, open labeled, control study.General intensive care unit of a tertiary referral teaching hospital.30 critically ill patients with isolated head injury divided in two ...

Resting energy expenditure (REE) may be useful for individualizing energy intake (EI) and physical activity (PA) goals, and in turn, regulating gestational weight gain (GWG). Limited research, however, has examined the association between REE and GWG. This study examined (1) change in REE from 14 to 28 gestation, (2) time-varying associations between ...

Resting energy expenditure in chronic cardiac failure
Clinical Science, 19911. Resting energy expenditure has previously been shown to be elevated in the acute phase of heart failure, but the situation in the compensated state of chronic cardiac failure is unclear. Resting energy expenditure was assessed in 14 patients with stable chronic cardiac failure and 14 matched control subjects by using indirect calorimetry.

Resting energy expenditure in chronic hepatitis C
Journal of Hepatology, 2000Hypermetabolism is considered to be of clinical interest in liver disease and in several chronic viral infections. Whether resting energy expenditure (REE) increases during chronic hepatitis C is not known. Our aims were: (a) to determine the metabolic state of patients with chronic hepatitis C, and (b) to evaluate the effects of interferon therapy on ...

Resting Energy Expenditure in Interstitial Lung Disease
American Review of Respiratory Disease, 1990Because interstitial lung disease increases the work of breathing, the aim of this study was to determine if this condition is associated with increased energy requirements. A group of 12 clinically stable patients with interstitial lung disease was studied.

Resting energy expenditure in children with phenylketonuria
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995Reports have suggested that children with phenylketonuria (PKU) weigh more compared with reference data. We found lower body protein and bone mineral density in children with PKU. These children may have a predisposition becoming overweight because of an alteration in body composition, which may lower resting energy expenditure (REE).

Increased resting energy expenditure in cystic fibrosis
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1988To explore the hypothesis that there is an increased metabolic rate in cystic fibrosis, resting energy expenditure was measured by indirect calorimetry in 23 subjects with cystic fibrosis in a stable clinical state and in 42 normal control subjects.

Resting Energy Expenditure (REE)
1989The treatment of nutritionally depleted patients is sometimes guided by estimation of resting energy expenditure (basal energy expenditure) so that enough caloric intake can be administered to assure anabolic use of protein sources.
