Effect of sedentary activities on resting metabolic rate

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1994
We examined the effect of television viewing on resting metabolic rate (RMR) in a cohort of 9 obese and 18 nonobese girls aged 10.4 +/- 1.1 y. RMR was measured while girls watched television, read, or sat quietly for 15 min. Movement was assessed by using activity monitors and a manual count of movements observed on a videotape.

Genetic effect in resting and exercise metabolic rates

Metabolism, 1989
Two studies dealing with the contribution of the genotype in individual differences for resting metabolic rate (RMR), thermic effect of a 4.2 MJ carbohydrate meal (TEM), and energy cost of submaximal exercise are reported. The genetic effect for RMR and TEM was studied in 31 pairs of parent-child, 21 pairs of dizygotic (DZ) twins, and 37 pairs of ...

Thermoneutral zone and resting metabolic rate of broilers

British Poultry Science, 1983
Metabolic rate was determined once a week in broilers from a commercial source, from 1 to 63 d of age. The equations relating minimal resting metabolic rate (oxygen consumption, ml/bird h, y) and body weight (W) were: males 45 to 497 g, y = 3.2 W0.882; 597 to 3000 g, y = 40.5 W0.483; females 45 to 514 g, y = 2.52 W0.881; 514 to 2500 g, y = 12.3 W0.627.

Daily variations in resting metabolic rate

2016
INTRODUCTION Resting metabolic rate (RMR) are indicators of the amount of calories a person needs during one day at rest. They provide information on the amount of calories burnt on basic body functions and also the amount of calories burned by food intake and physical activity.

Aftereffects of Exercise upon Resting Metabolic Rate

Research Quarterly. American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1963
Abstract Resting metabolic rates of two healthy middle-aged male subjects were tested twice a week during a six-week exercise program. On one day each week observations were made at 2–4–6–8–hr. intervals following the exercise bout; on the other day observations were made at corresponding times, but without exercise.

Body composition and resting metabolic rate: the myth of feminine metabolism

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1982
Resting metabolic rate (RMR) in adults can be viewed from two perspectives. Body surface area is used to index RMR in the clinical perspective. Normal values of RMR are thus sex-specific and appear to be lower in women. However, the physiological perspective is one of an asexual metabolism that differs in the mass of active cells. The body cell mass is
