Auditory Hyperresponsivity in Chronic Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Pain Reprocessing Therapy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 6, Page 1555-1567, June 2026.
Objective Heightened sensitivity to noxious stimulation is a hallmark of chronic pain. Emerging evidence suggests heightened unpleasantness to non‐noxious (eg, auditory) aversive stimulation also characterizes chronic pain, but its magnitude, neural mechanisms, and treatment modifiability remain unknown.

Anti‐Seizure Medications Alter Functional and Effective Connectivity as Measured With Intracranial Electroencephalography

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
ASMs affected the effective connectivity within the seizure network more than in the healthy network. Alterations in functional connectivity were found within the healthy network. ABSTRACT Background Anti‐seizure medications (ASMs) control seizures through distinct neuronal mechanisms. While suppressing seizures, putative spill‐over effects can lead to

Structural Connectivity of Functionally Defined Episodic Memory Networks: A Large‐Scale Connectome–Behavior Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Background Previous task‐based fMRI work in a large cohort of young adults identified nine large‐scale functional brain networks whose encoding‐related responsivity was robustly associated with individual differences in episodic memory. It remains unclear whether structural connectivity within these task‐fMRI‐defined networks explains inter ...

Supplementary Motor Area During Motor Actions in Athletes With Neurological Disorders: Observational Study of Cases and Controls

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Athletes with neurological disorders showed increased supplementary motor and premotor area activation during soccer‐specific motor preparation with respect to healthy controls, particularly with the affected limb, suggesting compensatory neural strategies that support motor control and performance.

Reduced but Reversible Brain Entropy After Occupational Partial Sleep Deprivation in Night‐Shift Medical Staff

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Partial sleep deprivation (PSD) poses health risks to the night‐shift workers (NSW), but its underlying impacts on local brain function remain underexplored. Brain entropy (BEN), a nonlinear dynamic metric, has emerged as a novel parameter of choice in probing the temporal irregularity of brain activity, thus may offer new insights ...
