Future Applications of Central Neuromodulation and Neurophysiological Testing in Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, Volume 37, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) is defined by its episodic patterning. Furthermore, CVS is associated with other episodic disorders such as migraine and epilepsy. Indeed, many of the medications that are known to be useful for prophylaxis and abortive therapy in CVS are also effective in preventing and aborting migraines and seizures.

Perturbing whole‐brain models of brain hierarchy: An application for depression following pharmacological treatment

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, EarlyView.
We apply whole‐brain models of brain hierarchy based on a thermodynamics of mind framework to investigate state transitions in depression. Dynamic sensitivity analysis explores how psilocybin and escitalopram affect susceptibility and drivability to healthier states.

The neurobiology of altered states of consciousness induced by drumming and other rhythmic sound patterns

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, EarlyView.
Rhythmic auditory stimulation has been used across cultures to alter consciousness, yet its neural basis remains unclear. Our review suggests that rhythmic sounds induce absorption and relaxation. We propose that thalamo‐cortical entrainment to low‐frequency rhythms underlie these effects, paralleling mechanisms in psychedelic and psychotic states.
