Contact Mechanics and Coefficients of Restitution

2001
We assume that the energy dissipated during collisions between solid bodies is due to plastic deformation at the contact. The normal and tangential interactions between elastic and elastic-perfectly plastic spheres are discussed. For elastic-perfectly plastic spheres an analytical solution for the normal coefficient of resitution is presented which is ...

Coefficient of Restitution by Video Analysis

2017
The coefficient of restitution of a tennis ball falling on two different kind of floors is investigated. The video analysis is used and it is shown that this is a simple method to obtain the restitution coefficient of several pair of materials, measuring just the initial height of the ball made of one substance and the maximum height after the ...

DYNAMIC FORMULATION OF COEFFICIENT OF RESTITUTION

1964
Abstract : The paper is concerned with the preparation of a mathematical model involving collisions between two bodies and the subsequent analog computer program. It considers a fictitious damped spring as a coefficient of restitution generator'. Formulae are derived for spring stiffness and the viscous damping in both one and two degrees, of freedom.
