Spherically Restricted Random Hyperbolic Diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
This paper investigates solutions of hyperbolic diffusion equations in R 3 with random initial conditions. The solutions are given as spatial-temporal random fields. Their restrictions to the unit sphere S 2 are studied. All assumptions are formulated in terms of the angular power spectrum or the spectral measure of the random initial ...

Conditional inference for restricted randomization designs

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1988
In a clinical trial to compare two treatments, suppose that patients are assigned to treatment according to a certain class of restricted randomization rules. Conditional on the difference in numbers between the two treatment groups, the asymptotic null distribution of a class of permutation tests is shown to be Gaussian.

Order Restricted Randomized Block Designs

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural, Biological and Environmental Statistics, 2023
AbstractField experiments are run under two competing objectives, high precision and minimal cost. The precision can be increased either by using sound experimentation techniques that account for the sources of variation with reasonable statistical models or by increasing the sample size.

Simple compared to covariate-constrained randomization methods in balancing baseline characteristics: a case study of randomly allocating 72 hemodialysis centers in a cluster trial

open access: yesTrials, 2021
Background and aim Some parallel-group cluster-randomized trials use covariate-constrained rather than simple randomization. This is done to increase the chance of balancing the groups on cluster- and patient-level baseline characteristics.

Casual Associations and Shape Between Prepuberty Body Mass Index and Early Onset of Puberty: A Mendelian Randomization and Dose–Response Relationship Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2022
BackgroundThere is an ongoing controversial issue regarding whether onset of puberty is related to childhood BMI.ObjectivesThis study aims at investigating the causal association and its shape between prepuberty BMI and early puberty onset.MethodsBreast ...

Exact properties of Efron's biased coin randomization procedure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Efron [Biometrika 58 (1971) 403--417] developed a restricted randomization procedure to promote balance between two treatment groups in a sequential clinical trial. He called this the biased coin design. He also introduced the concept of accidental bias,

randomizeR: An R Package for the Assessment and Implementation of Randomization in Clinical Trials

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2018
Randomization in clinical trials is the key design technique to ensure the comparability of treatment groups. Although there exist a large number of software products which assist the researcher to implement randomization, no tool which would cover a ...

Complex And Simple Appendicitis: REstrictive or Liberal postoperative Antibiotic eXposure (CASA RELAX) using Desirability of Outcome Ranking (DOOR) and Response Adjusted for Duration of Antibiotic Risk (RADAR): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesTrauma Surgery & Acute Care Open, 2022
Objectives After appendectomy for simple or complicated appendicitis, the optimal duration of postoperative antibiotics (postop abx) is unclear and great practice variability exists.

A SAS Macro for Covariate-Constrained Randomization of General Cluster-Randomized and Unstratified Designs

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2017
Ivers et al. (2012) have recently stressed the importance to both statistical power and face validity of balancing allocations to study arms on relevant covariates.

Allocation techniques for balance at baseline in cluster randomized trials: a methodological review

open access: yesTrials, 2012
Reviews have repeatedly noted important methodological issues in the conduct and reporting of cluster randomized controlled trials (C-RCTs). These reviews usually focus on whether the intracluster correlation was explicitly considered in the design and ...
