Effect of retained austenite on the microstructure and mechanical properties of cold-rolled medium-manganese Q&P steel

Ironmaking & Steelmaking, 2022
The effect of retained austenite stability on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of a new cold-rolled medium-manganese steel (0.12C, 7.69Mn, 1.45Si, 2.76Al wt-%) under intercritical annealing Q&P process at different partitioning ...

Transformation microyielding of retained austenite

Acta Metallurgica, 1989
Abstract The reversal in the temperature dependence of the elastic limit accurately determines the Mσs temperature of retained austenite in 4340 steel. Two models, one based on an exponential distribution of pre-existing nucleation sites and another based on an autocatalytic-site potency distribution, were compared in predicting the constitutive ...

Retained austenite in intercritically annealed HSLA steel

Metallography, 1987
Abstract The effects of processing parameters on austenite retention in intercritically annealed HSLA steels have been investigated. Low-temperature tempering was found to be necessary for successful tint etch of high-carbon martensite in dual-phase structure with sodium metabisulfite.

Retained Austenite and the Tempering of Martensite

Nature, 1960
THE decomposition of retained austenite as the second stage in the tempering of quenched steels is well recognized, and has been explored extensively. However, the role of retained austenite in the first stage tempering reaction has not been studied widely.

X-ray determination of retained austenite

Journal of Heat Treating, 1981
The variation of retained austenite content in heat treated steels is studied here by an X-ray diffraction technique. It is found that the retained austenite content in steel samples studied increases with the austenitizing temperature and decreases slowly with the tempering temperature up to 177 °C.

Determination of retained austenite in bearing steel

Hyperfine Interactions, 1986
Mőssbauer effect experiments in scattering geometry were performed for gauging plates and bearings in order to measure the retained austenite content. The results, obtained from numerical calculations of Mossbauer spectra are compared with the X-ray diffraction measurements.

Retained Austenite

1999
Abstract This chapter addresses the issue of retained austenite in quenched carburized steels. It explains why retained austenite can be expected at the surface of case-hardened components, how to estimate the amount that will be present, and how to effectively stabilize or otherwise control it. It presents detailed images and data plots
