Profiency testing in reticulocyte counting

Clinical & Laboratory Haematology, 2008
The Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program tests and evaluates proficiency of clinical laboratories in Ontario, Canada. The programme began in 1974; testing of reticulocyte counts was added in 1982. From the beginning, the goal of the programme has been to ensure that the quality of practice in Ontario laboratories facilitates good quality patient care.

Analysis of Manual Reticulocyte Counting

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1981
A statistical appraisal of manual reticulocyte enumeration was extensively investigated. Statistically, the counting variability among technologists was significantly worse than expected for a counting (Poisson) process. the proportional error associated with each technologist can exceed 39%.

Proficiency Testing of Reticulocyte Counting in Ontario

Laboratory Hematology, 2005
The reticulocyte count reflects the erythropoietic activity of the bone marrow and is thus useful in both the approach to the diagnosis of anemia and in monitoring bone marrow response to therapy. Traditionally, reticulocyte quantitation relied upon microscopic techniques; recently automated reticulocyte quantitation has become widely available ...

Automated reticulocyte counting: evaluation of the CoulterĀ® STKS Haematology Analyser reticulocyte counting function

Clinical & Laboratory Haematology, 1997
This study evaluated reticulocyte counting with the automated reticulocyte function of the Coulter STKS Haematology Analyser. This is an upgrade option for Coulter STKS and MAXIM haematology analysers. Reticulocyte counts obtained with the automated reticulocyte counting function were compared with those obtained by visual counting.

[Comparison of various reticulocyte counting methods and the standardization of reticulocyte counting].

Rinsho byori. The Japanese journal of clinical pathology, 2001
The reticulocyte count has been conventionally determined using a visual method. Recently, due to technological advances an automated method has come into general use in laboratories. The precision in terms of reproducibility of automated reticulocyte counters has also made rapid progress compared with the visual method.

In vitro stability of the reticulocyte count.

Clinical and laboratory haematology, 1997
A collaborative study was undertaken to investigate the effect of storage conditions on the measured reticulocyte count in venous blood samples. It was designed to cover variation in the three main determinants, namely time, temperature and anticoagulant.
