Variants in CEP135 Cause Congenital Microcephaly and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a disorder of motile ciliary dysfunction causing chronic respiratory infections, may also rarely present with aspects of non‐motile ciliary dysfunction, including retinitis, central nervous system malformations, skeletal dysplasia, and sensorineural hearing loss.

DNA Origami Uptake in Y‐79 Retinoblastoma Cells Driven by Oligolysine Coating

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
We show that polymeric coating can enable DNA origami nanoparticle internalization into ocular retinoblastoma cells. Not only are the coated nanoparticles well‐tolerable to the cells, but they also remain mobile in the vitreous of a porcine ex vivo model.

A Simple Temperature‐Controlled Method for Preserving Viability in Human Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Retinal Organoids During Shipment

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 10, October 2026.
A lithium‐free temperature‐controlled shipping system (YOTI) stabilizes physiologic temperatures during overnight transport of mature human iPSC‐derived retinal organoids. Compared to conventional ambient shipping, YOTI reduces temperature fluctuations, preserves retinal lamination, decreases cell death, and maintains rod photoreceptor marker ...

Systemic Loss of Chromosome Y Associates With Age‐Related Ophthalmic Diseases in Middle‐Aged Men: A Longitudinal Multi‐Omic Study

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
This longitudinal, multi‐omic study of 223,051 men identifies systemic mosaic loss of chromosome Y (LOY) as an independent risk factor for age‐related macular degeneration (AMD). By integrating prospective plasma proteomics and single‐cell transcriptomics, we unveil a distinct somatic mutation‐immune‐retinal axis wherein Y‐deficient myeloid cells drive

Insights into the modulation of age‐related macular degeneration: Molecular and systems‐level perspectives

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue S293, Page S4-S35, October 2026.
ENGLISH SUMMARY In developed countries, age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of visual impairment in the aging population. Understanding of its pathogenesis is limited and the number of patients is predicted to continue rising. AMD is classified into two main forms: dry and neovascular AMD (dAMD and nAMD, respectively).
