Incidence and Risk Factors of Iatrogenic Retinal Breaks: 20-Gauge versus 25-Gauge Vitrectomy for Idiopathic Macular Hole Repair

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Purpose. We compared the incidences of iatrogenic retinal breaks and postoperative retinal detachment between eyes that underwent 20-gauge vitrectomy and those that underwent 25-gauge vitrectomy for idiopathic macular hole repair. Methods.

Bio‐Inspired Optoelectronic Neuromorphic Device Based on 2D vdW Ferroelectric Heterostructure for Nonlinearly Preprocessing Visual Information and Convolutional Operation

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
For achieving nonlinear preprocessing of visual information analogous to the retina and convolutional operations in the visual cortex at single device level, a three‐terminal 2D vdW ferroelectric heterojunction is proposed. The results shed light on integrating diverse bio‐inspired visual functions in optoelectronic neuromorphic devices for the benefit

Roller Coasters and Retinal Detachment: Case Series and Review of Acceleration-Deceleration Retinal Injury

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology
Introduction: Anecdotal reports and limited reports suggest a possible link between activities involving rapid acceleration and retinal detachment. We present two novel such cases and review existing literature to investigate the plausibility of this ...

Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis Complicated by Severe Exudative Retinal Detachment and Orbital Granuloma Successfully Controlled with Rituximab: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2023
We report a rare case of severe exudative retinal detachment with orbital granuloma associated with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA). A 42-year-old man developed bilateral conjunctival hyperemia and eye pain 15 months before presenting to us ...

Retinopathy of Prematurity Stage Diagnosis Using Object Segmentation and Convolutional Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is an eye disorder primarily affecting premature infants with lower weights. It causes proliferation of vessels in the retina and could result in vision loss and, eventually, retinal detachment, leading to blindness. While human experts can easily identify severe stages of ROP, the diagnosis of earlier stages, which are

Segmentation of Retinal Blood Vessels Using Deep Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The morphology of retinal blood vessels can indicate various diseases in the human body, and researchers have been working on automatic scanning and segmentation of retinal images to aid diagnosis. This project compares the performance of four neural network architectures in segmenting retinal images, using a combined dataset from different databases ...

Update on a long-term, prospective study of capsulotomy and retinal detachment rates after cataract surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Journal ArticlePURPOSE: To evaluate the retinal detachment risks and neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) capsulotomy rates associated with different cataract approaches and intraocular lens (IOL) styles in a long-term,prospective clinical study.

Establishing an experimental rat model of photodynamically-induced retinal vein occlusion using erythrosin B [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
AIM:To develop a reliable, reproducible rat model of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) with a novel photosensitizer (erythrosin B) and study the cellular responses in the retina.METHODS:Central and branch RVOs were created in adult male rats via ...

Two‐Terminal MoS2‐Based Retinomorphic Devices with Enhanced Synaptic Plasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The two‐terminal retinormorphic devices are demonstrated on the functionalized substrate through plasma treatment. The functionalized substrate serves recombination centers, which can control the decay dynamics of excited carriers. These make modulating synaptic plasticity possible in two‐terminal retinormorphic devices.
