Implants Eyed for CMV Retinitis
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1993TEN YEARS ago, patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) who developed cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis lived, on average, 2 months. Now that such patients survive more than 1 year on average, and some up to 3 years, the need for better therapy is becoming urgent.

Lens Implantation and Retinal Detachment
1982In the general population, the incidence of retinal detachment seems to be about one in ten thousand. Among aphakics, however, this incidence varies from 0.5% to about 3%, an increase by a factor of 300, which confirms the irrefutable influence of cataract extraction.

Emerging Biomaterials for Retinal Implants
Retinal neurodegenerative diseases cause debilitating and profound vision loss that impacts millions of individuals. To treat such diseases, significant multidisciplinary research and developmentary effort have been dedicated toward realising a functional visual prosthesis, a bionic eye. The first generation of these bionic eyes (or retinal prostheses)M. L. Italiano +4 more
