High-Resolution Photography of the Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1983
Abnormalities in the appearance of the retinal nerve fiber layer can indicate the presence of optic nerve atrophy, but a major problem has been the difficulty of visualizing the nerve fiber layer in some individuals. By selectively illuminating the white nerve fiber layer in comparison with the red retinal pigment epithelium and choroidal background ...

Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness in Parkinson Disease

Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 2013
Dopaminergic neuronal cells have been identified in the inner nuclear and inner plexiform layers of the human retina. The dopaminergic content of the retina is reduced in patients with idiopathic Parkinson disease (PD). These observations led us to study the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in patients with PD without visual impairment ...

Retinal nerve fiber layer thickening in ARSACS carriers

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 2016
Two Caucasian Belgian families were diagnosed with autosomal recessive spastic ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS). The ophthalmological findings in both ARSACS disease and carriers are described. In addition to a complete ophthalmological assessment, in both patients and carriers, spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography scans of the peri ...

Multiple defects in the retinal nerve fiber layer in glaucoma

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1992
We investigated the parameters that correlated with multiple defects in the retinal nerve fiber layer in 77 human eyes with normal-tension glaucoma, 110 with chronic high-tension glaucoma, and 102 control eyes. All 187 glaucomatous eyes had a nerve defect that was multiple in 20 cases.

Schisis of the Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer in Epiretinal Membranes

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019
To describe schisis of the retinal nerve fiber layer (sRNFL) associated with epiretinal membranes (ERMs) seen on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) prior to vitreoretinal surgery. Areas of sRNFL (size and location) were noted during preoperative planning.

Retinal nerve fiber layer analysis in cocaine users

Psychiatry Research, 2019
Cocaine is a well-known factor of tissue ischemia and may be related to thinning of the inner retinal layers. The present study aimed to evaluate and determine whether cocaine users show retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thinning by means of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.
