Information Computing and Automation, 2008The paper proposes a novel algorithm based on Retinex theory and color transfer to get illumination invariance among images, taking one of the images as a reference. Most of the algorithms focus on eliminating the illumination effect of one image, while our method corrects the variable illumination among images.

Reflectance ratios: An extension of Land's retinex theory
1994Neighboring points on a smoothly curved surface have similar surface orientations and illumination conditions. Therefore, their brightness values can be used to compute the ratio of their reflectance coefficients. We develop an algorithm that estimates a reflectance ratio for each region in an image with respect to its background.
