Enhancement of Weakly Illuminated Images Using CNN and Retinex Theory

2020 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2020
Images captured in low light environments are more susceptible to loss of information in dark regions, making details of the scene not noticeable to humans. These dark images can also make difficult the use of automatic computer vision algorithms in applications as segmentation, object detection and recognition, or tracking.

An Image Enhancement Algorithm Based on Retinex Theory

2009 First International Workshop on Education Technology and Computer Science, 2009
According to the Retinex theory, the color of an object is jointly decided by its reflecting ability to three independent wave-length lights-lights of short, medium, and long wave. The reflecting ability of the object in a certain wave band is an immanence nature which does not rely on lamp-house itself.

Parabolic Adjustment of Image Clearness Algorithm Based on Retinex Theory

2011 Seventh International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Security, 2011
If the histogram equalization on the basis of Retinex theory is used to an image, an excessive enhancement or darkening of brightness may arise. Aimed at these problems, this paper presents a parabolic adjustment of image clearness algorithm, which is mainly based on Retinex theory, equalizing histogram with the aid of parabolic transfer function ...

A 18.42 times faster video encoder based on Retinex theory

2012 Picture Coding Symposium, 2012
Because of the limitation in the imaging system, videos captured by mobile devices are usually noisy. In this paper, a noise robust fast video encoding scheme is proposed based on Retinex theory. The reflectance image is estimated in a co-analysis module by Retinex theory, within which the content similarity is detected to conduct the encoding process.

A Survey of Image Dehazing Algorithm Based on Retinex Theory

2020 5th International Conference on Intelligent Informatics and Biomedical Sciences (ICIIBMS), 2020
With the development of computer vision systems, image enhancement has become an important research direction in computer vision. Image defogging technology is widely used in the systems of satellite remote sensing, aerial photography, target recognition and outdoor monitoring.

Color Vision and Retinex Theory

1988
It is a cultural commonplace deriving from Newton that the color of an object in the world around us depends on the relative amounts of red, green, and blue light Coming from the object to our eyes. In contradiction, it has long been known that the color of an object when it is part of a general scene will not change markedly with those considerable ...

Retinex at 50: color theory and spatial algorithms, a review

Journal of Electronic Imaging, 2017
Retinex Imaging shares two distinct elements: first, a model of human color vision; second, a spatial-imaging algorithm for making better reproductions. Edwin Land’s 1964 Retinex Color Theory began as a model of human color vision of real complex scenes.

An Improved Image Enhancement Approach Based on Retinex Theory

2013 International Conference on Information Technology and Applications, 2013
Using the reflectance component of images directly as the output of Retinex enhancement lacks adjustability and removing illuminance completely from the non-uniform image leads to the lack of coordination between gray scales and the visual effects is unsatisfactory.

Color Transfer and Retinex Theory Based Illumination Invariance

Information Computing and Automation, 2008
The paper proposes a novel algorithm based on Retinex theory and color transfer to get illumination invariance among images, taking one of the images as a reference. Most of the algorithms focus on eliminating the illumination effect of one image, while our method corrects the variable illumination among images.

Smitty Stevens’ Test of Retinex Theory

1974
This paper describes an experiment that Smitty performed while I was giving the William James lectures at Harvard. It was a modification of Craik’s and Cornsweet’s experiments using mixtures of red and blue instead of black and white. Smitty’s experiment tested whether the colors produced were the colors one would expect from the predictions of Retinex
