Release of retinol and denaturation of its plasma carrier, retinol-binding protein

open access: yesFolding and Design, 1998
Retinol is tightly packed inside the structure of its plasma carrier (retinol-binding protein, RBP). It was found that retinol release from RBP to aqueous solutions is facilitated by either very low pH or very high temperatures (i.e. by non-physiological conditions that cause protein denaturation).

Crystal structure of liganded and unliganded forms of bovine plasma retinol-binding protein

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1993
The three-dimensional structures of bovine plasma retinol-binding protein (bRBP) complexed with retinol (space group P2(1)2(1)2(1), a = 46.08, b = 49.12, c = 76.10 A) and of the unliganded protein prepared in vitro by extracting retinol with ethyl ether (space group P2(1)2(1)2(1), a = 46.55, b = 48.97, c = 76.87 A) have been solved at 1.9 and 1.7 A ...

Evaluation of drug-induced hepatotoxicity by plasma retinol binding protein.

open access: yesIn vivo (Athens, Greece), 2002
Retinol binding protein (RBP) in the plasma of rats treated with D-galactosamine was monitored to establish whether its level can be used to evaluate drug-induced hepatotoxicity. Blood was withdrawn by heart puncture at 0 hours and 12 hours after the administration of D-galactosamine (400 mg/kg body weight i.p.) to rats. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and

Early onset preeclampsia is characterized by altered placental lipid metabolism and a premature increase in circulating FABP4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-associated disorder that manifests as a sudden increase in maternal blood pressure accompanied by proteinuria. Because the placenta is a key organ in preeclampsia, we used proteomic and lipidomic analyses to compare placentae ...
