Maternal nutrition as a key determinant of placental and developing blood–brain barrier xenobiotic protective functions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Suboptimal maternal nutrition alters placental and developing blood–brain barrier (BBB) protective function and is associated with increased fetal brain vulnerability. In the placenta, nutritional adversity may reduce the exchange surface area and promote meta‐inflammation, compromising barrier efficiency in a model‐ and context ...

Possibilities for Using NoSQL Databases in Information Systems in Transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The article presents directions for development of end-user-oriented information systems in transport. Characteristics of databases belonging to the trend of NoSQL have been enumerated as well as the represented data models. The example of a relational ...

Maternal protein restriction programs the ageing kidney: Proteomic signatures of early‐life origin renal and metabolic dysfunction

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Maternal protein restriction (MPR) induced persistent renal histopathological alterations accompanied by elevated serum creatinine levels. Nephron‐segment proteomic analysis revealed region‐specific molecular dysregulation affecting Bowman's capsule (PARK7, oxidative stress sensor; MSN, cytoskeletal organization), the proximal ...

Thrombus Metabolism‐Based Molecular Subtyping for Prognostic Risk Stratification in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Preliminary Study

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study identified two metabolically distinct thrombus molecular subtypes in AIS: a lipid metabolism‐enriched subtype (C1) associated with cardioembolic stroke and poor functional outcomes, and a folate metabolism‐enriched subtype (C2) linked to atherothrombotic stroke and better prognosis. A six‐metabolite signature further demonstrated exploratory

Associations Between Microbial Depletion and Autonomic Dysregulation in Binge‐Eating Disorder

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, Volume 59, Issue 9, Page 2059-2075, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective The interplay between the gut microbiome and autonomic nervous system remains unexplored in binge‐eating disorder (BED). We aimed to explore specific microbial alterations in BED and examine their potential association with cardiac vagal tone as a distinct bio‐behavioral phenotype.

Serum retinol binding protein 4 in individuals with essential hypertension and type 2 diabetes: A cross-sectional study

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care
Background: Cardiometabolic disorders, notably primary hypertension and type 2 diabetes, present substantial global health challenges. The intricate interplay between metabolic and cardiovascular pathways has prompted extensive research into molecular ...

Calpeptin Reduces Extracellular Vesicle Secretion and Induces Anti‐Inflammatory Effects but Upregulates HO‐1 and Alters Adiponectin Levels in Human Adipocytes

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent studies have shown that adipose tissue (AT) secretes elevated levels of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in obesity, and these EVs play roles in metabolic diseases. The inhibition of calpains has anti‐inflammatory and anti‐fibrotic effects on AT in mice and reduces EV secretion in some cell types in vitro.

Decreased retinol transport proteins in thai post-menopausal women with Osteporosis

open access: yes, 2011
High vitamin A ingestion or high serum retinol have been postulated to increase the risk of fractures and osteoporosis by reduced bone mineral density (BMD).
