Retinol Esterification Activity Contributes to Retinol Transport in Stellate Cells.
The mechanisms of retinol transport and accumulation in hepatic stellate cells (HSC) remain to be elucidated. Our previous studies suggested that retinol esterification activity, particularly lecithin:retinol acyltransferase (LRAT) activity, in liver retinoid metabolism is important to elucidate the relationship between retinol uptake by HSC and the ...

Production of functional human vitamin A transporter/RBP receptor (STRA6) for structure determination. [PDF]
STRA6 is a plasma membrane protein that mediates the transport of vitamin A, or retinol, from plasma retinol binding protein (RBP) into the cell. Mutations in human STRA6 are associated with Matthew-Wood syndrome, which is characterized by severe ...

Transthyretin (TTR) is a plasma hormone carrier protein associated with hereditary and senile forms of systemic amyloid disease, wherein slow tetramer disassembly is thought to be an obligatory step. Plasma transport of retinol is carried out exclusively by the retinol-binding protein (RBP), through complexation with transthyretin.

Serum and intracellular retinol transport in the equine [PDF]
1. Serum and intracellular distribution of retinol was determined in equines maintained on four levels of vitamin A intake.2. The form of retinol transported in serum was determined by gel filtration and chromatography to be a complex of retinol bound to a protein of molecular weight (MW) of approximately 20000, which was in turn complexed probably ...

Retinol-binding protein (RBP) is the specific blood carrier for the transport of retinol (vitamin A) to target tissues. As the kidney is involved in RBP metabolism, the analysis of RBP species in the serum of patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) was

Retinol metabolism in rats with low vitamin A status: a compartmental model
A compartmental model was developed to describe the metabolism of vitamin A in rats with low vitamin A status maintained by a low dietary intake of vitamin A (approximately 2 micrograms retinol equivalents/day).

Transcriptome shifts triggered by vitamin A and SCD genotype interaction in Duroc pigs
Background The composition of intramuscular fat depends on genetic and environmental factors, including the diet. In pigs, we identified a haplotype of three SNP mutations in the stearoyl-coA desaturase (SCD) gene promoter associated with higher content ...
