Transport and uptake of retinol during chicken oocyte growth
Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1993Most, if not all, components found in the yolk of a chicken egg are extracted from the plasma compartment during the rapid growth phase of the oocyte. Uptake of the major yolk constituents, very-low-density lipoprotein and vitellogenin, has been shown to be mediated by a specific receptor in the plasma membrane of the oocyte (Barber, D.L., Aebersold, R.

Transthyretin: roles in the nervous system beyond thyroxine and retinol transport
Expert Review of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2012Transthyretin (TTR) is a plasma- and cerebrospinal fluid-circulating protein. Besides the primordially attributed systemic role as a transporter molecule of thyroxine (T4) and retinol (through the binding to retinol-binding protein [RBP]), TTR has been recognized as a protein with important functions in several aspects of the nervous system physiology.

Male Wistar rats were injected ip with 0 or 20 mg/kg 3,3',4,4',5,5'-hexabromobiphenyl and blood samples were collected 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8 d later. At 8 d after the injection, serum retinol was increased 30% and serum thyroxine was decreased 26% relative to control values.

Placental Transport of Retinol in Sheep
The Journal of Nutrition, 1982Six ewes in the last trimester of pregnancy were maintained on adequate intakes of vitamin A. Indwelling catheters were implanted surgically in fetal jugular veins and carotid arteries. Three ewes and three fatal lambs received intravenous [15-3H] retinol 19 days prior to parturition, followed by sequential sampling of maternal and fetal blood.

Human serum retinol transport in malabsorption
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1974Using specific immunoassays for retinol-binding protein (RBP) and prealbumin (PA), the proteins responsible for serum vitamin A transport in man, the retinol transport system has been examined in 22 adults with malabsorption (mean stool fat 23 g/24 hr). Mean serum concentrations of vitamin A and RBP in these patients did not differ from normal, whereas
