Needle detection and localisation for robot‐assisted subretinal injection using deep learning

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Subretinal injection is a complicated task for retinal surgeons to operate manually. In this paper we demonstrate a robust framework for needle detection and localisation in robot‐assisted subretinal injection using microscope‐integrated Optical Coherence Tomography with deep learning.

Genetically Determined Plasma Lipid Levels and Risk of Diabetic Retinopathy: A Mendelian Randomization Study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Results from observational studies examining dyslipidemia as a risk factor for diabetic retinopathy (DR) have been inconsistent. We evaluated the causal relationship between plasma lipids and DR using a Mendelian randomization approach.

Improved Microaneurysm Detection using Deep Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In this work, we propose a novel microaneurysm (MA) detection for early diabetic retinopathy screening using color fundus images. Since MA usually the first lesions to appear as an indicator of diabetic retinopathy, accurate detection of MA is necessary for treatment.

Case report: The role of hypertension retinopathy graduation in the management of systemic cardiovascular disease

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care
Moderate to severe hypertensive retinopathies are more likely to correlate with uncontrolled blood pressure in all ages. Mild microvascular changes are expected with natural aging and are therefore more concerning in patients younger than 40.
