Retinoscopy of aquatic eyes

Abstract Retinoscopic refraction of an aquatic eye immersed in water is shown to be biased due to refractive effects of the air-water interface between subject and examiner. Ametropias in aquatic eyes are overestimated in retinoscopy by a factor of 1.34 for marine animals and 1.33 for freshwater animals.

Dynamic retinoscopy and accommodation

The added positive lens power required for low and high neutrals at a distance of 1/3 m is determined as a function of age for a sample of 221 clinically normal subjects, aged between 10 and 80 years. These dynamic retinoscopy results are compared with corresponding laser optometer measurements of the levels of accommodation under each condition.

The origin of the apparent farsightedness as revealed by retinoscopy in smaller eyes was investigated by using monochromatic retinoscopy on wild rabbits. Our results indicate that a combination of long wavelength light and chromatic aberration of the subject's dioptrics is the major source of this artifact.

ABSTRACT This study compared refractive error obtained by the “near retinoscopy” method as described by Mohindra and static retinoscopy under cycloplegic conditions. A Makeshift Retinoscopy Rack
